Trade supremacy in the East Indies

8 August, 2015 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

| Free with exhibition ticket

After Vasco da Gama rounded the Cape of Good Hope in 1497, the Portuguese dominated trading networks from Goa in India through to the Moluccas, Timor and as far north as China and Japan. In 1595 and 1601 respectively, the first Dutch and English trading expeditions appeared, setting the scene for a 200 year long struggle between the Portuguese Crown, The Dutch East Indies Company and the English East India company for trade supremacy in the Eastern Seas.
